Company Background

1972: First practice opens in Omirou Avenue, Nicosia with the name Nakis Theocharides Opticals. Success is gradual but with solid foundations based on good customer care and service which leads to great success.

1976: Our second practice opens in Limassol, the second biggest city in Cyprus.

1977: A company named Alion opens also in Limassol, for the manufacture of lenses. At that time all lenses were imported which caused delays in customer service, a fact that led Mr. Theocharides to form what was the first manufacturing company of its kind.

1979: Again, the pioneering force of this company opens the gates of wholesale trading. The first wholesale company of Cyprus is founded which starts the supply of designer frames and sunglasses, contact lenses and their solutions, as well as optical equipment for examining patients and preparing spectacles.

1986: Galileo Optical House in Makarios Avenue, Nicosia opens with a new upmarket concept. It also becomes very successful.

1994: A big fashion show takes place with tremendous success. Guest of honour is Bruno Palmegiani, the head designer and creator of Police sunglasses.

1996: Another practice opens in Dali, a town 20 minutes outside Nicosia. This aids many of our suburban customers.

2000: A street party is organised outside Galileo, with a concert of the band One, the biggest boy band of the moment in Greece.

2003: The best year ever in sales with a 20% increase in turnover in our flagship store. Factors for this success include great marketing campaigns, offers, and the usual great customer service.

2004: New blood comes into the company with the return of Maria and Vasia Theocharides, the daughters of the founder, who have both qualified and gained practical experience of optometry in the UK.
