Low vision means impaired vision that cannot be corrected by glasses, surgery or medication. The most common cause of low vision is macular degeneration which is the main cause of low vision in patients over 70 years old and affects the central portion of the visual field. Other common pathologies that lead to low vision are glaucoma, diabetes and cataracts.

Low vision assessment:
This is a functional eye exam with our specialty trained low vision optometrist focusing on the patient’s individual difficulties in every day life that arise from having low vision. It consists of an interview to determine the situation and difficulties the patient faces and then a comprehensive eye exam. The latter, determines which lenses or low vision devices are beneficial for achieving the clearest possible image. Then, when the right aid has been determined, training follows in the use of low vision aids and advice is given.

There is no other place in Cyprus with so many low vision aids of all types. We pride on the service we provide and enjoy tremendously being able to offer aids that can change someone’s life so much for the better.

• MAGNIFYING LENSES: These can be hand-held, freestanding or in some cases incorporated in glasses. They come in many different magnifications.

• TELESCOPES: These are more used for distance viewing like binoculars but can be for one eye or both. Again, many types and magnifications are available.

• ELECTRONIC VIDEO MAGNIFIERS: Reading becomes easy with this type of magnifier which allows you to keep a normal reading distance, add contrast and light and magnify print up to 90 times. See the types below. Now, some even read the print to you both in English and Greek, as well as many other languages.

• FILTERS: Spectacles with many different coloured lenses which absorb rays of different wavelengths protecting the eye from ultraviolet, infrared and blue visible light. This managing of light that reaches the eye maximises functional vision. By reducing disability glare and enhancing contrast, our filters often improve mobility or offer relief.
